Small Airplane Crashes in Denmark, one Person Dead

One person was killed and another injured when a small, two-seater aircraft crashed near an airfield in southern Denmark on Saturday, 24 March, 2012. The victim was identified as a 37-year-old man from Kolding, southern Denmark, who was flying in a single-engine SF-260 Siai Marchetti aircraft as part of celebrations for his bachelor party, prior to his wedding.

However, the plane crashed shortly after take-off from Skrydstrup Air Base at around 13:00 hours local time (1200 GMT), said Danish news agency Ritzau.

The man and the aircraft's 42-year-old pilot were seriously injured in the crash, and airlifted by emergency services to a nearby hospital.

However, the man died of his injuries late Saturday afternoon.

 

Police authorities in southern Denmark told Ritzau the cause of the air crash is still unknown, and that investigations into the accident will soon get underway. (Xinhua)

 

 
 

Freeport-hired helicopter missing in Papua

Officials say a helicopter with three people on board has gone missing while carrying food for U.S. mining giant Freeport-McMoRan in Indonesia.

Company spokesman Ramdani Sirait says the Eurocopter AS-350 was reported in trouble and lost contact Saturday morning.

He says the helicopter, hired from a private company, was carrying a New Zealand pilot and two employees of food supplier Pangan Sari.

Five people are reported to have died when a 1982 Cessna 501 Citation I/SP crashed during landing on Thursday, March 15, 2012 about 1:45 p.m. EDT after attempting to land at Macon County Airport, FAA locator 1A5, 3 miles northwest of Franklin, North Carolina, 75 miles east of the Tennessee state line, on a flight originating from Venice Municipal Airport (VNC) in Sarasota County, Florida, according to reports published on this date by WCNC-TV, WLOS-TV ABC Action News, The Washington Post, NYC Aviation, the Aviation Safety Network, and other sources.

Plane hits 2 cows while landing in Venezuela runway, all passengers safe

An airliner hit two cows while landing in Venezuela this week, killing both bovines and significantly damaging the jet Wednesday, 07 March 2012.

The cows were reportedly occupying the single runway at Mayor Buenaventura Vivas Airport in Santo Domingo, Venezuela, when Aserca Airlines Flight 764 from Caracas, a McDonnell Douglas MD-82 (YV348T) touched down Wednesday afternoon. Unable to clear the plane’s path, the cows were impacted by the jet’s left main landing gear and left wing flaps.

United Airlines emergency landing at Newark without front landing gear

NEWARK / NJ - An airplane made an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport Monday evening because of a nose gear problem, and passengers were forced to exit the plane on emergency chutes, according to authorities.

The pilot on United Airlines’ Shuttle America flight 5124 from Atlanta to Newark radioed in an issue with its front wheel shortly before its scheduled touchdown at Newark Airport, according to FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac. An indicator light had gone off in the cockpit of the Embraer 170 airplane, pointing to unsafe gear.
